The climate, the population and nature of Bulgaria

Bulgaria is situated on the Eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula and borders with countries such as Romania, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey. In the East lies the Black sea coast with its famous resorts. The length of this incredibly beautiful and fascinating country is from the southern border to the Northern 330 km, and from East to West is 500 km, So its total area equals 110912 km from the Capital of Bulgaria – Sofia.

Unique landscape

Most of the territory of the country – 41% is a hilly area, and 31.5% are plains, and a 27.5% are mountains. It is noteworthy that in Bulgaria, in the direction North to South is the oldest mountain range of Stara Planina, better known to the world as the Balkans. In honor of these beautiful mountains and was named the Peninsula. The highest peak of the Balkan mountains is considered to be Musala (2925 m) located in Bulgaria.

Climatic conditions

It is a state with a predominantly temperate continental climate, with the usual 4 seasons. However, in the southern regions of Bulgaria, along the Black sea coast, the climatic conditions are much softer and closer to the Mediterranean. The average temperature in winter is in the range of +2°C, and in summer is + 26°C.

Water resources

In Bulgaria, flows a lot of rivers (Maritsa, Places, Struma, etc.), the most famous of which is the great and affluent of the Danube. Also in this state a large number of glacial lakes with clear water, located in the mountain ranges of Rila and Pirin. In addition, the country has about 700 natural springs with healing mineral water.

Ethnic composition and population

According to the latest data obtained through the census conducted by 31.12.2015 Bulgarian national statistical Institute (www.nsi.bg), live in this country 7153784 citizens. The vast majority of people – 84% Bulgarians, the second largest ethnic group is Turks (9.5 per cent). The greatest population density observed in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. In her 15.09.2016 year lived 1.3 million people (www.grao.bg). In Plovdiv, the second largest Bulgarian city, is home to 383 000 people, in Varna – 366 0000, and in Burgas – 226 000.

The official language

The official language in this country is Bulgarian, which belongs to the Slavic group (Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian). In resort towns, hotels and shopping centres employ staff who are fluent in Russian and many European languages. All road signs on the roads and in the resort areas is duplicated in English. Many elderly people understand and speak Russian language, but young people prefer English.

Public authorities

Bulgaria is a parliamentary-presidential Republic. In this state, the single-chamber Parliament with 240 deputies, for a term of 4 years. The President is the head of state is elected by popular vote for 5 years. The main Executive body of this country, the Council of Ministers. The official name of the state, enshrined in the Constitution in 1991, the Republic of Bulgaria. The country is in the UN since 1955 and has diplomatic missions in over 130 countries.

Administrative and territorial structure

The territory of Bulgaria is divided into 28 areas, which consist of 278 municipalities (communes). At the head of each region is the Governor, who is appointed by the Ministerial Council. Municipalities are run by mayors, who are elected by a General vote of all residents.

Economic development

Immediately after accession on 1 January 2007 in the EU, Bulgaria has foreign investment pouring in. Such a solid financial support was the reason for the stable growth of the Bulgarian economy. Particularly significant investments have been attracted in the tourism sector and food industry. Bulgaria has strong economic and trade relations with Russian, European and Chinese companies.

Money and exchange rate

The official currency in the country is the Bulgarian Lev (BGN BGN) and small change coins stotinki (like our cents). In circulation, there are bills of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 leva. The exchange rate of the local currency is 1.95583 BGN for 1 Euro.

Mobile communications

In this state there are 3 operator offering mobile services – Vivacom, M-tel and Telenor. In order to save on roaming charges, many tourists prefer to buy a SIM card in the offices of the Bulgarian mobile companies.

Beach vacation

According to the norms of the Bulgarian legislation and the Constitution all the black sea coast is considered the property of the state. However, many companies, including hotels, rented areas of the shoreline, which equip the "private beaches". Unlike municipalities, on these beaches provide the most comfortable conditions for recreation, however, all these pleasures are available for a fee.
